Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen, promote, and champion the Green Valley and Sahuarita libraries and in so doing enrich the quality of life for everyone in our community. To achieve this mission we foster lifelong learning, encourage volunteerism, and raise funds that support programs, provide supplemental materials, and contribute to library improvements.

What We Do

The Friends help make possible a variety of programs at the Green Valley and Sahuarita Libraries. These include--

Supplemental funding for large print books, talking books, databases and other media

Children and youth programs in both libraries

    • Summer reading programs
    • Storytimes for various ages
    • Create Club
    • Legos club
    • Yarn Addicts (knitting and crocheting), Amado Youth Center support, and
    • Book giveaways
Programs for Adults
    • Two Green Valley Book Clubs: mystery and literature, open to all, featuring books by renowned international and local writers. All selected books are available in the Library.
    • Omnivorous Readers book club at Sahuarita
    • Focus on Art series: discussions led by Tucson Museum of Art docents, Opera Talks,  and Arizona Humanities Council presentations.
    • Tai Chi and meditation programs
    • Poets’ Corner: a monthly gathering of folks interested in poetry
Scholarships for graduate students at the University of Arizona School of Information Resources and Library Science who are employees of the Pima County Public Library System

Bookstores

In order to raise funds and recycle books, we operate two used bookstores, one in the Green Valley Library, one in Green Valley Village. Your donations of used books provide us with our inventory.
